Review

This show was scheduled without a lot of lead time, appearing on slambovia.com only a couple of weeks before the date of the show, which made me worried that the crowd would be sparse. But my fear was unfounded, as the venue was full, and the audience was very enthusiastic.

Musical highlights again included the two new songs the band has recently been playing, the rockin' "Straight Outta Time" (ironically appearing on their Folk II CD), and the lyric-dense "Solve It All Daily," which I believe contains references to many of the paintings done by Spanish surrealist Salvador Dalí.

The band continues to revisit the Flapjacks From the Sky album with the title track as well as several other songs from their 2005 studio album.

It was fantastic to see new drummer Felipe Torres, who had been unable to join the band for the last two shows I saw. He's a stylish guy with a lot of drumming tricks, and from where I was sitting I was able to get a good number of decent pictures (check out photo gallery to the right and up on this page).

The Payomet Center for the Arts redefines "middle of nowhere" as it is located in North Truro (Cape Cod) adjacent to an abandoned radar base. The shows are staged in a tent, with seating arranged differently for each show, depending on how much interest the management thinks the show will attract. There is a good big stage with lots of room for the band's equipment. On the way in, there was a sign advertising "CircuScape, Circus Shows Weekly" ... I thought that was just the right thing to have on display, when the Slambovian Circus comes to town.
