Review

An easy drive of about one hour brought Concert Going Partner and me to a beautiful outdoor concert venue in the town of Abington, MA.

This was our second time seeing the groovy Beatles tribute band Studio Two. The previous time was at Chatham First Night on Dec. 31, 2018. The band is a very strong Beatles tribute band. They dress perfectly and have totally Beatlesque stage mannerisms. One of their real strengths is that they focus on the early years, during the most genuinely fun years of The Beatles. They scatter the early hits throughout the show, grabbing the audience's attention in a big way by starting with a spot-on perfect rendition of "She Loves You." The extremely generous set list of 25+ songs ended the main show with "I Want To Hold Your Hand." In between the audience sang and clapped along with a string of early hits as well as a few lesser known numbers. All four musicians got lead vocals, including Ringo. (I've got a soft spot for drummers so I always love hearing Ringo sing.)

The show was scheduled for two hours with a fairly short (about 20 minutes) intermission, but after the two hours were over the band played a very generous five-song encore, with the first two songs featuring Paul on acoustic guitar. This Paul is a genuine left-handed player and it was hypnotic watching him in the spotlight performing two acoustic numbers more or less solo.

John and George were the same musicians as at our previous Studio Two show, but there was a different Paul and Ringo. The John and George actor/musicians (who are, in their off-stage life twin brothers Stephen and Robert Murray) apparently are the permanent members of this band, and they both have the singing, playing, and look down pat. The other two whom I hadn't seen before were great, too. Paul sounded and looked convincingly like the real Paul. Ringo was a little young and a little cute to be quite as convincing as the others, but his drumming and singing were both really fab.

The weather was very comfortable, and because we were facing east while in front of the stage, the light was good for picture taking. There was a food truck with excellent choices for a light supper and also ice cream. We saw one of the young ladies who had introduced us to this band in a diner in New Hampshire a couple of years ago, as well as a Kinks fan named George (who was someone we knew from the Dave Davies touring years) and his concert going partner Sheryl, so it was a delightful social occasion as well.
