Review

Porch Party Mamas are a five-piece, all-woman band based in the folk universe. This is a very democratic band. Ksenia, Jane, Katrin, Felicia, and Kelly contributed equally to the excellence of the show. They all have lead vocals, they all write songs, they are all great singers, they all play multiple instruments, and they are all accomplished musicians. Seldom have I seen a band with five members where the musical spotlight shines so equally on all five.

Songs were mostly originals, with a couple of Celtic instrumentals and a thoughtful Beatles cover. The five songwriters all have varying styles, and the music ran the gamut from a bit rock-tinged to a bit of blues, and a touch of the old country, along with what might be considered straightforward folk. Every song featured great musicianship and really sweet harmonies.

This was our third visit to this very nice live music club in Duxbury on the coast of Massachusetts Bay. The venue, taking the pandemic seriously, required proof of vaccination for all attendees. There was an efficient but friendly social distancing seating plan; each party of concert goers were asked to take their chairs from the chair rack and put them in the concert hall wherever they felt comfortable.
