Sunny Afternoon

He'll Have To Go

Review

The dynamic duo calling themselves Jumpin' Juba played an afternoon concert at the local library. It was a drizzly day, just perfect for something over an hour of musical entertainment. A technician from the local Town of Bourne TV station was there with her video camera, so the show will also be broadcast to the local community.

The band members are Steve Hurl, who sings and plays guitar, and David Lockeretz, standup bass. About half the set consisted of original songs written by Steve, some of which had an upbeat and humorous component. The other half of the set were covers, including traditional blues and a handful of familiar numbers from the rock 'n' roll era, including a very fine instrumental version of the Beatles' "I'm Looking Through You," as well as the groovy Kinks cover that I caught a video of.

I had never heard of Jumpin' Juba, but they were really good, both musically and in terms of their outgoing and witty personalities. A big thank you goes to the Bourne Public Library for their ongoing sponsorship of concerts by some really enjoyable local performers.
