Review

This is the second year in a row we've seen this fab trio perform at the venue we usually call the Bank Vault. These three singer-songwriters complement one another's singing, playing, and songwriting skills well. We've seen Kim numerous times lately since she's local (Cape Cod); Rod we've only seen the one other time in this format; and Susan goes back to the first time we saw her as a "Stompette" -- backing vocalist for legendary Boston rock band The Stompers (and that was in 2013).

There was a good range of skills on display. Rod's a rip roaring good instrumentalist. Susan maybe has the purest singing voice of the three, but all three are excellent vocalists. Kim has a very light touch on the guitar, too. Rod pulled out the harmonica for a song or two. Rod has a touch of humor in his songwriting, and Kim gives a nod to her indigenous ancestry in hers. She also played one song in celebration of the Juneteenth holiday. I think the highlight of the night might have been Susan's amazing "Work Hard Love Harder" but there were plenty of highlights.

After a short intermission the three started the second set with three covers, my favorite of which was Rod's performance of Lyle Lovett's "If I Had a Boat" (one of my five favorite songs in the world). The trio finished up with a breathtakingly beautiful version of "Imagine."

The Bank Vault has a series of concerts throughout the year. They also have art classes and displays. Their official name is the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, located in a building that formerly housed the Bass River Savings Bank. Easy to find just south of Rte. 28 and with plenty of parking. We got to Yarmouth early and spent a few minutes visiting the Judah Baker Windmill on the Bass River, about a mile south of the venue, making a plan to visit later in the summer during the hours that they're open so we can get a tour with a docent.
