House On Fire

Review

For the second year in a row Maura and Pete played a gig in this folk venue, on the second floor of a converted fire station with an interesting fire museum on the first floor. The place has a house concert vibe. There are exactly 40 seats in the venue, so one wouldn't call this a big concert hall. As Maura and Pete often do, they took requests for the second set. I already had my request played in the first set, which was "Don't Talk To Strangers"; since that song references a fire engine, I had thought it was appropriate for a concert in a fire house. They followed my request, brilliantly, with the seldom-heard "House on Fire."

Both Maura and Pete dressed appropriately for the venue, remembering how hot it was in here at the show last summer. Pete was wearing a Sweethearts of the Rodeo t-shirt, and Maura was looking very pretty in a sleeveless dress. They had a ceiling fan going but it didn't really help that much. Not sure if the windows just don't open. I had forgotten this detail from the year before, and changed at intermission into my newly acquired Kennedys t-shirt.

The show was opened by a brief three-song set by a duo who sang and played guitar and percussion, whose name I did not retain (sorry). They were quite good and set the tone for the excellent set by Pete and Maura to follow.
