Concert Review

Valentine's Music Hall isn't a place you'd bring your mother to see the show. It's in a truly scary neighborhood, and the crowd of about 100 people included a high percentage who were extremely drunk. Their pushing and shoving and grabbing was a true distraction from an otherwise enjoyable show.

On the other hand, the venue had surprisingly excellent sound. The stage was high enough to see even from the back, roomy enough for Dave to move around, and actually pretty with what looked like tinsel hanging behind Jim Laspesa's drum kit. Unfortunately I only got one picture; the instant the flash went off, a giant sized bouncer leaned toward me and wiggled his index finger to indicate no pictures. At least they didn't snatch my camera, which has been known to happen.

Despite the crowd and other drawbacks, this was one of the best shows I've seen. The band played the long-missing "Love Me Till The Sun Shines," one of my particular favourites, and they also added in "Funny Face" and the pleasing, country-tinged "There is No Life Without Love," featuring David Nolte on a very nice second guitar.

The only picture I got at this show, but I like the way Dave is sticking out his tongue.
