Will the Circle Be Unbroken?

The Jonathan Bourne Public Library hosted their first outdoor concert of the summer season. The performers were singer/songwriter/music historian Matt York on guitar and vocals, accompanied by Angelica Vendetti on fiddle. They performed an hour of enjoyable oldies from the genres of country, gospel, honkey tonk, and more. They covered songs by a number of extremely familiar names, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard, and others. Matt's calling is to keep this American music alive by performing fresh versions of these classics, and giving just a bit of educational material leading up to the songs.

Country has never been my top genre, but songs like "King Of the Road," "I Go To Pieces," and "I Walk The Line" certainly have a permanent place in the Great American Songbook, and these two talented musicians provided topnotch renditions of these songs to an appreciative audience out on the library lawn on a not-terribly-hot summer evening.
